General Rules:
- In order to graduate from the department, the "accumulated ECTS" on the transcript must total 240 ECTS, including the compulsory internship.
- Of these 240 ECTS, 180 ECTS must consist of PSK (PSY) coded courses.
- The rest (60 ECTS) can be taken from other departments.
- All compulsory courses must be taken and successfully completed.
- Counting the failed elective course with another course: When a student fails any elective course connected to the program - even if the failed course is offered again in the following year - he / she can take another elective course in the program in which he / she is enrolled (after successfully completing this course) and count this course (by petitioning) instead of the elective course he / she failed before.
1st year students:
- 1st year students can take a maximum of 63 ECTS per year. If there is an ECTS deficit due to transferred or exempted courses, they can take optional elective courses (2 ECTS courses offered throughout the school) or 1st year courses from the curriculum of other departments to complete 30 ECTS per semester (with the permission of the course instructor). They cannot take courses of upper 2nd, 3rd and 4th year).
- Starting from the 2023-2024 academic year, Neuroanatomy course is offered instead of Modern Biology course.
- There will be no quota problem since all courses to be chosen by first year students who are placed with ÖSYM are compulsory. Therefore, prefer the following days for course selection, not the first day (Mebis can be overcrowded and locked).
- All Turkish Citizen students enrolled in the Psychology English program must select ATA1210000 coded ATATÜRK PRINCIPLES AND HISTORY OF THE Turkish Revolution II and TDL1220000 coded TURKISH LANGUAGE II. (Students will take this course by selecting the Psychology / Turkish department from the "Other department courses" tab).
- International students enrolled in the Psychology English program must choose ATA1210500 coded ATATÜRK PRINCIPLES AND HISTORY OF REVOLUTION II and TDL1210600 coded TURKISH LANGUAGE II.
2nd and 3rd years:
- Students who have enrolled in Medipol this year are entitled to 60 (+3) ECTS per year.
- Those who have completed one year at Medipol and have a year GPA of 3.00 and above are entitled to 75 (+3) ECTS per year in addition to the courses they have failed. Those with a year GPA below 3.00 are entitled to 60 (+3) ECTS per year in addition to the courses they have failed.
- 3rd graders can choose/take 4th grade elective courses only during the add-drop week, not during the course election week.
- 2nd graders with a year GPA of 3.00 and above can only add 3rd grade elective courses during the add-drop period (they cannot take elective courses from the fourth grade).
- 2nd and 3rd year students cannot take compulsory courses from upper grades.
- Students who fail the Modern Biology course must add the Neuroanatomy course.
- There will be no quota problem since all courses to be chosen by first year students who are placed with ÖSYM are compulsory. Therefore, prefer the following days for course selection, not the first day (Mebis can be overcrowded and locked).
- 4th year students can take up to 90 ECTS (new) courses per year, excluding the courses they have previously failed, without the requirement of grade point average. The semester credit amount cannot exceed 45 ECTS.
- 4th graders can take/add 3rd year elective courses only during the add-drop week.
- Students who want to do their compulsory internship in the field of clinical psychology must have successfully completed the Clinical Psychology course. Students who fail this course can do an internship in a different field of psychology.
- Students who have failed or never taken the Critical Thinking in Psychology course must take the Introduction to Anthropology course; students who have failed or never taken the Human Mind course must take the Introduction to Scientific Thinking course.
Program Related Elective Courses:
- 3rd year students will take 2 elective and 4th year students will take 4 electives this semester. The situation of taking more elective courses than the limit determined for the registered year (for example, if the student is in the 3rd year and wants to take 3 elective courses) will be determined only during the add-drop week, within the quota and with the approval of the advisor. If the student adds extra elective courses before the Add-Drop Week, some or all of the elective courses will be deleted.
- Until the add-drop week, only elective courses opened at the level of the registered class can be taken. During the add-drop week, 2nd year students (if there is an ECTS deficit) can take elective courses from 3rd year,3rd year students from 4th year and 4th year students from 3rd year.
Taking upper-level courses:
- In accordance with the decision of the department, students must first take the courses they need to take from previous semesters and the courses in their current class.
Courses that are taken instead of failed elective courses:
- If students have previously failed any elective course in the program, -they can take another elective course in the program they are studying even if the failed course is offered again in the following year. After successfully completing this course, they can make this course equivalent with the program-related elective course they failed.
Failed Course
- Even if the courses you have taken in previous semesters and failed appear in the unsuccessful (başarısız) tab in the course selection panel, pay attention to whether that course is a fall or spring semester course. If the course is not offered, you should not select the course.
Overlapping courses:
- Students who are in the graduation stage (who can graduate after taking 45 ECTS) are allowed to take courses when two compulsory courses overlap (however, if their compulsory course and elective course overlap, they are not allowed to take the elective course).
- The overlap will be evaluated by the advisors of the DMP students.
- If the student's previous year courses that he/she has never taken before overlap with the current semester courses, his/her priority should be to take the previous year courses.
Taking courses from other departments:
- 60 ECTS of the 240 ECTS required for graduation can be taken from other departments or optional elective courses. For courses taken from other departments, permission must be obtained from the instructor of the course before the selection or in the first week of the course. Some professors may not accept students from other departments.
Prerequisite courses:
- A prerequisite course is a course for which another course must be taken. For example, Introduction to Psychology 1 is a prerequisite for Introduction to Psychology 2. Introduction to Psychology 1 is called a "prerequisite course" and Introduction to Psychology 2 is called a "a course with prerequisite".
- The rule about prerequisite courses is as follows: Students cannot take the course with prerequisite until they are successful in the prerequisite course. If the prerequisite course is taken for the first time BEFORE the 2019-2020 Fall semester, the student is not subject to this rule; in other words, the student can take the course with prerequisite even if he/she has not taken or failed the prerequisite course. Prerequisite rules apply for courses taken for the first time in Fall 2019-2020.
